One quote from my interview with Devin Bramhall, former CEO of Animalz, earlier this week represents a valuable lesson worth reflecting upon.Β
When I asked her, ‘What did you do to keep the team together, make the bond stronger, and for them to step up during the crisis?’ – this was her answer:
The first was transparency. The task I had at hand was to build trust. Then,[…] being more forthcoming with my thoughts. So, I wrote these very personal notes to the team, talking about times when I was scared that week or the things I struggled with. Obviously, you package them in a way, but people could see I was a whole person. That really helped with bonding.Β
And then the third: showing results, sorry to say, but they speak for themselves. Only so long would ‘me being relatable and transparent’ work if the company continued tanking. I had to turn things around; we had to turn things around – because people will look at me no matter what.
Here’s the thing:
This three-part approach has been the secret that pulled her company through the pandemic to not only survive it – but to get stronger from it.
Having a team that steps up for each other is magical in good times; it’s critical in times of crisis. And that’s where you have the most significant chance of everything falling apart. Building trust, genuine bonding, and showing results solves that – and helps to do remarkable things.
