It takes vulnerability to reveal the weak spots that prevent us from achieving our biggest aspirations.
Why do I bring this up? Well, a conversation with a B2B SaaS CEO last week. I asked him: “How’s 2022 been – and what would you do differently in the coming 12 months?”
What followed was like listening to a pitch. He was deliberately avoiding answering the question. Everything had worked, resulting in great customers, remarkable innovation, and unbelievable ROI; there was no end…
“Can I stop you here? I interrupted. “This felt like a lot of nice PR stuff that you get to investors….but… what didn’t work out as expected?”
It took a question like this to open the kimono and uncover the blindspots. It changed the conversation.
So common. (I am guilty of it myself sometimes)
Isn’t it odd how our natural mode in sharing is to pretend ‘everything is sunshine’?
What if we’d open up and be more vulnerable?
Wouldn’t the reaction be a generous willingness to help?
- We’re all making mistakes – we’re human!
- We’re innovating – doing things never done before
- There is no map – so why hold up illusions that we’re invincible?
It’s in revealing our weak spots where our growth happens.
Question for you to reflect upon
Where are you hiding? And more importantly – how can you prevent it in 2023 to achieve your biggest aspirations faster?
